Our Discalced Carmelite Monastery in Preston, founded in 1917, is the only enclosed Contemplative Convent in the diocese of Lancaster. Lancashire is renowned for its martyrs and staunch adherence to the faith in time of persecution. Only two miles away from Carmel stands the ancient Marian shrine of Ladyewell, famous for its holy well and also its shrine to the English Martyrs. Our Discalced Carmelite Friars run Tabor Retreat Centre nearby and celebrate daily Mass for the Nuns.

Our combined witness of Friars, Nuns and Secular Order Carmelites keeps the Teresian Carmelite Charism alive in the North West of England.

St Teresa taught a community lifestyle like that of a small family where “All must be friends, all must love one another, all must be cherished, and all must help one another.” We try to live in simplicity and joy, being love in the heart of the Church.
